Booty is recovering from a MAJOR surgery.

We are only $205 short of what is needed to pick up Booty from the hospital on Monday!  YEAH!  Thank you Arthur and Rob for the NYC Challenge!!

Booty had surgery Thursday afternoon, Sept 23.   He is in recovery now.

Booty’s story:

Booty came to us with an urgent plea from the shelter: ” Little tzu (sic) with HUGE tumor needs rescue NOW. ”

Well, when I saw the picture below, I gulped.  After going through the surgery with Voltaire ( who is doing wonderfully, by the way), I knew a tumor this large could mean nothing good.  But, I decided to pull him out of the shelter and at least give him the dignity to be put to sleep in someone’s arms.

I sent him to my vet to get a quick work up and you can not believe my shock when the vet said this looked like a hernia, not a tumor.  OMG.

So, off to Gulf Coast and the amazing Dr. Heidi Hottinger went Mr. Booty.

This very adorable little lhasa boy was left at a local shelter.  Very, very sweet.  Beautiful coat.  But, ahem – nasty larger tumor on his rear.

We had to schedule the surgery quickly.  I was worried that his intestines might strangulate at any moment causing him to die.  I was so worried, I didn’t leave him alone for longer than four hours at all.

The cost of surgery was estimated at $1800-$2200.  Our vet has already done the bloodwork and x-ray workups for approximately $500.   Please help us help this little cutie pie.  Later, we’ll need to do heartworm treatment, but right now we just have to pay for the hernia surgery.

No more BIG TUMOR-ISH lump hanging off his rear.  Isn’t he cute?

He stayed in ICU at Gulf Coast over the weekend.  I suspect I’ll be picking him up on Monday.  So, we need to have his funds available at that time.  Right now, we are about $200 short of what we’ll need to get him out of the hospital.

Way short for Booty’s surgery tomorrow!

We had the wonderful offer to match up to $500 for Mr. Booty’s surgery and we are still way short.  As of right now, we only have $930 toward the $2700 he needs for the surgery and workup.  That’s only $150 toward the $500.

Folks, our vet is already nervous about Booty’s condition.  The intestines can strangulate at any time and the prognosis if that happens is very grave.  We just cannot delay this surgery any longer.  We have two more orthopedic surgeries on the back burner – Mudd Barker and Barnaby Davis – but theirs are old breaks and not critical.  Booty is critical!

I know we ask a lot of you folks, but we do it all for the dogs!

I agreed to take this boy, honestly thinking that this would be an inoperable anal cancer and we would just be giving him a few days or weeks of hugs and then kindly put him to sleep.

Imagine my surprise when my vet called to say he thought this huge mass was a HERNIA.  Yes, his intestines are in this huge sack.

So, although the prognosis on surgery is guarded, it is potentially operable and he currently has an appointment on Thursday morning at the Gulf Coast Veterinary Surgery with the amazing Dr. Hottinger.

This surgery MUST happen pretty quickly.  It’s not currently an emergency, but with intestines hanging out like this, it could quickly become an emergency.

The cost of surgery is estimated at $1800-$2200.  Our vet has already done the bloodwork and x-ray workups for approximately $500.   We really need to have the funds in place before Thursday morning.  Please help us help this little cutie pie.  Later, we’ll need to do heartworm treatment, but right now we just need to get this hernia fixed.

I named him “Booty.”  Yes, “Booty.”

Say hello to…Murdock Harris

Murdock 1

Hi!  My name is Murdock Harris.  I’m a 3 year old black and gray Shih Tzu mix boy.  When I first came to Lone Star I weighed about 11 pounds, but now I am gaining some weight and I’m starting to look pretty good if I must say so myself!!  The volunteers at Lone Star found me in the local animal shelter just in the nick of time!!!  For some reason nobody was interested in a dog who didn’t even face the camera for his photo!   I guess they didn’t realize I am blind and a little hard of hearing.  Don’t think that slows me down though!  I can still prance around with the best of them!

I have a foster brother who likes to play with me and jump all over me.  I tolerate this quite well and usually just wait for him to get tired.  I’m not a total laze-about though!   You should see me dance around those when my foster mom gets home.  I’ll show you excitement.  She says she has never seen a dog that wags his tail so much.  It seems to go constantly.  I love my new foster home, and I feel very lucky to be here,  but I’ll be honest, I’ll be glad to find my forever home where someone will give me lots and lots of love and cuddles.

I’m great with children who understand my limitations and I’d love to have another dog to play with on occasion.   My foster mom says she thinks I will do great almost anywhere.   I have learned to adapt very well to my disabilities and hope I can find a forever family who can see what a wonderful little fluffer I am!

Please look at my Petfinder page for more information about me.  Also, please contact my foster mom at amykuc@yahoo.com.   She’ll be happy to tell you what a great guy I am.

I am altered, up to date on all my shots and am heartworm negative.
