Fantastic challenge to help Peaches

DSC03806

Here is little Peaches sticking her head out of the oxygen chamber!  It is so nice to see her able to survive at least a little while outside oxygen.  Gives us hope that all it takes is a little time.

Now the great news!  One of our long time supporters has issued a challenge -  she will match each and every dollar donated for Peaches through tomorrow up to $1500!!  W.O.W.  This is unbelievable.  If we can pull this off, it will put us where we need to be at least through Monday night.  Please help us take advantage of this wonderfully generous person!  Please contribute to Peaches.  No amount is too small!

Lone Star Shih Tzu & Lhasa Apso Rescue

DSC03803

Little Peaches was allowed outside of the oxygen chamber for a short while today.  The vets at GCVS think she’s making slow, slow progress.  We just need to keep her in oxygen for several more days.  This is expensive – running around $1000-$1500 per day – should we keep trying to save her?  I’ve never given up on a dog and don’t want to now!!!

Please help us help her.

Remember Annika?  Same thing happened to her just a few months ago.  We rallied behind her and today, she’s ready to be adopted.  JUST because you all saved her!

We desperately need financial  help right now.  We’ve always tried to come to the aid of the broken and sick dogs.  Consequently, we are way behind on funds for Repo, Bunting and Mandy, but right now, Peaches is CRITICAL.

Peaches is recovering in ICU

Spoke late yesterday with the fabulous vets at GCVS – Peaches is holding her own in oxygen.  Because she is so responsive to oxygen, the vets is pretty much convinced that it’s a clot from the heartworm treatment.  They were able to do x-rays and an ultrasound yesterday and all of the signs support that.  Her GCVS bill right now is $2280 and they think she will need to stay another two days at least.  ICU costs around $600 a day plus tests.  GCVS gives us a 30% discount for these cases.  So with two days, plus tests less our discount, we’re looking at around $3000.  This is HUGE on top of all of our other recent unbelievably high expenses.  Please help us help little Peaches.  She’s an adorable little tzu/poodle mix – three years old – deserving of a break right now.

If you would like to donate to her cause, THIS IS THE PAYPAL LINK.

Peaches Turner is in ICU

Our gorgeous Peaches Turner started her heartworm treatment on Tuesday.  Wednesday, we noticed that her heart was racing and she was having a bit of trouble breathing.   We rushed her to our vet and found out that she likely has a pulmonary embolism.  She was transferred to Gulf Coast Veterinary Hospital for critical care and is now in ICU.  She is in an oxygen cage and receiving treatment.  IT IS EXPENSIVE at GCVS, but if it wasn’t for their capabilities, she would likely be dead right now.

This is the same thing that happened to Annika just a few short months ago.  We want Peaches to survive but desperately need your help.  ICU is expensive.  Normally it runs around $600 a day plus tests.  Annika had to stay for four days.  Please help us help Peaches.  We have had so many very expensive little dogs lately, we are just about tapped out.

Mandy went to GCVS on 9-19 for a consultation. Her legs are a mess. This x-ray shows a "correct" set of legs and Mandy’s twisted and deformed ones.
The estimate to fix EACH leg is $4350 (the "regular" cost is $6000). GULP. The surgery involves adjusting the top bone (Femur) and the bottom bone(tibia) and straightening the leg to force it into a correct position. And adjusting the patella and tendons. Gulp again. help!

IF YOU CAN HELP THIS GORGEOUS LITTLE GIRL TO GET WHOLE, PLEASE think about sending a little donation for her.

Beautiful Mandy needs surgery ASAP. Here is her story.

The day Robyn Arouty and I went to the Houston SPCA to see the 199+ lhasas, shih tzu and maltese that they just received from a breeder in Waller County, TX, I photographed this pitiful, horribly matted, depressed little dog. She is an Animal Planet star.  You can see them filing her in the foreground. Little did I know what she had in store for me over the next few months.

The Houston SPCA called me a few weeks later to come get Mandy.  They had discovered that her back legs were deformed and she couldn’t walk. I thought she was just a gorgeous little girl so she came home with me.

I quickly found out that she could walk, but

not well at all.  Only in the grass, where she can get good traction.

Her legs were mangled and deformed.

We also found out that she had a surprise for us.  Look at that x-ray!  It looks like there are some weird, bony foreign bodies in her. Uh oh. PUPPIES!
Yes, indeedy, just a month after we got Ms Mandy from the HSPCA, look what happened.

Yes, that is Mandy and six little adorable puppies.

Miss Mandy spent the next few months raising six adorable little babies: Gwen, MJ, Jon Bon Jovi, Taylor, Gaga and Pink! So far, five have been adopted.

Then, Mandy took a short vacation. She had to be away from the puppies for several weeks so that she would "dry up" and we can get her spayed.

Now, its time for Mandy to go visit the amazing Dr. Brian Beale at Gulf Coast Veterinary Specialists, and get her legs fixed!
