Hello Good Friends!
Well, we’ve had an unbelievable weekend.
On Friday night, we were alerted to a little pregnant lhasa mix at the Houston city shelter, BARC. High heartworm positive, terribly matted and already with milk.
We immediately tagged her and picked her up as soon as they opened on Saturday morning. We rushed out to our fabulous vet, Foster Creek Veterinary Hospital, for an x-ray to see what was in there and to determine whether she would be able to have the puppies. All this time, the little dog, named Melody, was happy-go-lucky, kissy-faced and just a joy to be around.
We found four little "aliens" inside her just waiting to pop out. But, it looked like they were small breed puppies and that she could likely do fine through whelping. WHEW. No c-section.
I was preparing to head home with her and as we put her up on the table at the clinic for a quick exam and bloodwork, we found, to our amazement and surprise, a puppy trying to come out. LOL We immediately put her in a cage with lots of towels and guess what happened over the next 3.5 hours? At the clinic, after they were closed. Yep, four puppies.
This is what I got to take home with me. Little Melody Barker and the Melodettes.
Since mommy’s name was "Melody" and of course, we are on a Christmas theme, we named them for Christmas songs!
Ok, now down to business. We’ve taken in 29 dogs in the last month. Yes, 29. We were booking so fast, we didn’t even have time to ask for help with their bills.
Here is the first: Please help little Melody and the Melodettes. HERE is the chipin for Melody’s expected expenses – her complete vetting plus the very high quality and volume puppy food we are going to need for her.
Folks, we’ve started using Chipin because it automatically keeps up with the percentage raised and took a huge effort off of our volunteers. But, if you don’t like Chipin, you can donate straight to our paypal email which is DONATIONS@shihtzu-rescue.com. Just log in to paypal with your paypal id and indicate that you are "sending money" to our email address.
Of course, Melody also accepts checks:
