So I got an email a few days from another rescue person about 8 breeder confiscations that were in an animal control facility on the southwest side of Houston. While the facility was trying to find adopters for them, they weren’t having much luck. The dogs were very scared and didn’t seem to have many social skills. It looked like rescue was the only solution. We are always in desperate need of fosters, so how would we ever come up with EIGHT at one time! The Facebook pleas started going out, almost hourly.
I needed to find out more about these dogs so I headed down south to check them out. After some major navigation, I finally made it to the shelter. Another volunteer met me and we climbed inside the kennels to meet the pups. One of them was immediately friendly toward us-came right up to the front of the kennel to meet us. The others all huddled at the back trying to get far away from us as possible! We sat down and discovered that while all of them were terrified, none of them seemed to be aggressive. It wasn’t long before several were giving kisses and wanted to sit near us. Before we left, we gave all of them their first shots hoping to keep everyone safe.

My goal was to have found foster homes for all of them by Friday. On Friday, we had approved fosters for seven, so a couple of our volunteers headed down to pick them up. We got everyone loaded up and took them straight to Dr. Moore at Foster Creek Veterinary Hospital. He met us and gave everyone rabies shots, heartworm tests, and blood work. (We were excited to learn later that all EIGHT of them are heartworm negative!) Now it was off to Deogi to get these fluffers ready for their new lives!
We had volunteers meeting us at 7:00 to get all the dogs made over. We had grooming stations set up everywhere! It looked like most of these dogs had never been groomed. A couple of the dogs were so matted that the grooming was difficult. At grooming time, these dogs were still nameless, Dog #8 was one of the most difficult to groom. The groomers had to stop several times to let him calm down before continuing. You can look at this photo though, and see why it was so difficult-can you tell just how thick and matted the poor guy actually was. He must have been absolutely miserable!

It took hours, but by the end of the night, we had eight beautiful dogs! I would like to introduce them to all of you now…

We are so close to getting this girl her surgery! We were able to get a further reduction in the cost of Latifah’s surgery from the fabulous folks at Gulf Coast – her total costs now will be just over $3000 and you all have graciously donated over $2500. We only need $500 to make her well again! We have her surgery scheduled for TOMORROW. We want to have her surgery taken care of before it becomes an emergency and is more dangerous and costly!
You have been so great to step up for this little girl. We are almost there. Please donate however you are able. Every amount helps. We’re trying to keep up with all donations, so please if you are sending a check or making a Paypal donation, send an email with the amount to sherry352@sbcglobal.net

Well folks, we’re getting closer to the $3500 Queen Latifah needs for her surgery. We were hoping that Tifah would be able to lose some more weight before surgery to make it easier for her. (Her foster mom has already got over a pound off this girl!) Unfortunately Dr. Hottinger sent an email today that says the surgery needs to be done quickly before it becomes an emergency situation. Latifah has bladder stones, stones in her bile duct and a suspicious mass on her spleen. This darling is in a lot of pain and desperately needs our help.
We have raised approximately $1900 so far. We would like to schedule her surgery for next week but we really need to have the money raised before the surgery. All donations get us closer-small or large. If you would like to donate using PayPal you can do that HERE.

Queen Latifah
This beautiful girl is Queen Latifah. She came to us from CAP after a failed adoption. We thought it was because she was a little chubby-or just “big-boned.” Her foster mom has been working hard on her weight and Latifah is already down a couple of pounds!
She needs our help though. I know, it always seems we have another dog who needs some kind of medical work done, but we all know it’s worth it in the end, right? Latifah has bladder stones, stones in her bile duct and a suspicious mass on her spleen. After taking her to Gulf Coast Veterinary Specialists-Internal Medicine, we’ve learned that her surgery will cost approximately $3500. That’s a lot of money, but this little girl is living in pain and is on pain medication, which can damage her kidneys.
Latifah’s foster mom says even in pain this little girl is such a doll. She loves children and just wiggles with excitement when they come near her on a walk. Matter of fact, her foster mom says if she wasn’t at her pup limit she would already be a foster failure!
So far we’ve only raised approximately $600 of the needed $3500. Please, if you can find a way to donate any amount-large or small to help this girl it would be appreciated.
