We’ve taken in a lot of senior babies lately. We love the seniors, but do not want to put them in boarding. We desperately need adoptive and foster homes for each of these pupsters. If you can open your heart to take one of these in for the rest of their lives, please email harriet@shihtzu-rescue.com!

Reggie Barker – gorgeous nine year old tzu.
Klondyke Turner – 13 year old being turned in because her mom is going through chemotheraphy.

Jolly Kaplan – 10 year old gentleman from Louisiana.

Gorgeous Daisy May Montgomery – sweet 10 year old, very chubby, lhasa girl.
Please consider taking one of these no-trouble-at-all seniors into your home.
Email harriet@shihtzu-rescue.com if you can foster or if you want to adopt.

Waiting anxiously to hear the status on little Miss Joy Harris this morning. If you didn’t get the messages this weekend, let me catch you up..
Joy came to us a few weeks ago from Harris County Animal Control. She is a little lhasa mix who was reported to have a ‘hurt paw.” When we got her, we determined very quickly, that her leg was very broken. An x-ray confirmed that.
We took her immediately to GCVS for the amazing Dr. Beale to fix. We had to rush it because the break was fresh and we wanted the best chance to fix her correctly. The surgery was very successful!
Last week, Joy had a little stroke. Initially, it wasn’t a huge concern, but she didn’t recover as quickly as we expected.
We took her back to our vet on Friday and he decided that something very serious was going on and referred us to the neurologist at GCVS.
We did an MRI Friday and found “something” on her brain stem. The thought was that it was either a tumor, which is bad news, or an infection which might be treatable.
Right now, our bill there is likely to be around $2500-$3000. We’ve so far raised $525. If you can help at all, please consider helping little Joy.
Folks, we desperately need to keep her hosptialized until we know something. Please consider helping this sweet little dog!
Yes, when we saw this picture
and heard that an owner just dropped of this very pretty 10 year old girl, our hearts broke!
So, even though we are PACKED to the gills, we went and got her today.
Say hello to pretty little Daisy May Montgomery! Ok, she’s not to little, but she is gorgeous!

Miss Daisy will be on a diet for a while. She weighs a whopping 31 pounds. Probably should weigh 16 max.
She will soon be looking for a home, folks. You can apply at www.shihtzu-rescue.com!
Little Joy Harris progressed slightly this morning. We are so hopeful that she will be on the road to recovery, but desperately need more funds to help her. Someone said the other day that they weren’t the kind to ask for money like we do, and my response was that I actually thought we owed it to the dogs to do everything possible to save them. That includes embarrassing ourselves by begging!! So, please forgive, but this girl NEEDS HELP.
URGENT! Joy started having very strange neurological signs this week. We know she had a little stroke last week, but now her jaw is locked shut and we are very worried about her. She hasn’t eaten in a few days.Dr. Moore just referred us to the Neurology department at GCVS to see what in the world is going on. HELP!We cannot go there without a little chunk of change. I know we keep asking, but my excuse is that these dogs keep showing up with weird problems. Please help little joy! We would LOVE to get her in today and not wait until Monday.

Here is the Chipin to donate via paypal.
Of course, Joy will gladly take a check. Just mail it to us at

Thank you for allowing us to help these little dogs.
Received this update today from the DFW coordinator:
Abbi got her dental today and she has these amazing white teeth and only had two removed. They were lose due to so much hair being wrapped around them.
She had a couple of fatty tumors removed from her side and an inclusion cyst removed from her tail. She will need stitches out in 10 to 14 days.
She also had her ears flushed and the hair removed.
Her heartworm test was negative YEAH!!!!
She has a skin infection and was started on antibiotics. Hopefully this will take care of her chewing her skin.
She is an amazing little girl and should be just fine. She did great in her surgery and ate a little when she got home and is staying pretty close to the water bowl right now. We will meet Mike and Joyce this weekend and she will go home where she can get all the TLC she can handle. Thank you to everyone for your thoughts and prayers and well wishes for this little girl.
YEAH. Go Abbi.
Sweet little Alfie’s battle with prostate cancer is over. He recently began passing more blood and both yesterday and today I saw that he was in pain and having some difficulty walking. I was with him when he crossed the bridge this morning at Golden Triangle . I was honored to be his foster mom for the few months we had together. There is no sadness, only grateful and happy thoughts as I picture him running and playing (free of a diaper finally) with all the others who preceded him. Love and peace to Alfie.
