Carme is home from Gulf Coast!

I picked Carme up a few minutes ago.  She did not feel well at all!  I guess she's in a lot of pain.

Then, on the ride home, she took her e-collar off three times.  She's now resting comfortably in an x-pen at my house.

Huge thanks to Dr. Brian Beale of Gulf Coast Veterinary Specialists Surgery!!

Here is her broken, long-fused leg before the operation.

Looks a mess, doesn't it?

Here is the leg after surgery.  I think Carme gets the award for most hardware in a dog!

Thanks so much to all of you who are allowing us to do this for Carme.

But, please remember Mary Ranger who now has bladderstones and needs surgery.  Her story was posted on the blog yesterday.  PLEASE READ and help us help her.

In case you didn't know, Carme is one popular little girl!

Transport over, back to business! Carme needs surgery!

I must say I was astonished at home much the transport consumed my time.  And I wasn't even driving.  Please let me know if you were unable to view the view videos on Facebook.  They were so cute and made the trip seem real to all of us.

Twenty five little dogs are now safe in San Jose, CA but now we're back to our own business.

The most urgent is CARME BURKE.  Her fund is getting there, but we still lack $1310 as of right now before she can have surgery.  It was scheduled for this week, but unfortunately, with the economy the way it is, we had to reschedule it for a future data.  We can't go forward until her funds are ready.

Carme Burke's fund needs only $820!

So far, we've raised $2,680.50 for Carme's surgical fund.  The estimate to get her whole is right at $3500.  We've had to reschedule her surgery for a future date - not to worry, though, Dr. Beale will be back to do the surgery later in the month if we can raise the funds!!

Please help.  With the economic conditions, we need all the help we can get.  As you all know, we are getting requests left and right to take in dogs.  Many people just cannot afford these little guys right now and a lot of breeders are downsizing (yay) and even getting out of the dog selling business because it isn't as profitable.  Bigger yay.

We just can't do an expensive surgery like this until the funds are committed.  I'm sure you all understand.

You all are wonderful!  Never cease to amaze me with your generousity.  But, please pass this message around.  We definitely need more and more new people who love these little dogs.   It's a more-than-full-time job just trying to keep them from dying.

Carme Burke - surgery fund update

Carme's story

Little Carme Burke was rescued from the Pasadena Animal Control with a broken leg.  After our vet examined her, he found that her leg had healed in the broken position.  So, we were left with two options - amputate the leg or get her down to Gulf Coast Veterinary Specialists for an orthopedic specialist to fix it.

We took her for a consult with Dr. Brian Beale who is very certain that she can be fixed - his surgery estimate will total around $3,000 and we've already spent just at $500 for preliminary x-rays, vet visits, etc.   HERE is the original post about her situation.

As of Saturday morning, we have raised $2680, which is only $820 short of where we need to be.  We can reschedule her surgery for later this month if we can raise the remaining $800 this weekend.

Can you believe this? Carme Burke - ANOTHER orthopedic surgery.

I am just in disbelief right now.  After the year we've had with many very expensive surgeries - Mae Davis, Darden Turner, Chalupa Davis, Baylee Turner, etc, and the horrible state of the economy, here we go again.  We pulled little Carme with the intention of sending her to the Loree Levy-Schwartz and the American Shih Tzu Club Rescue, but unfortunately, this baby had a broken leg.  So, she stayed in Houston so we could fix her up!!

Little adorable Carme Burke.  Carme came to us from the Pasadena shelter.  She is a tiny little shih tzu mix - possibly yorkie or poodle in there somewhere.  Adorable personality.  She was limping when we got her and low and behold she has a broken leg!!

Our vet tried to set the leg, but evidently, the break is several weeks old and has fused in this position already.  So, guess what?  She needs to go see Dr. Beale to have this repaired.

We had the consult with him yesterday.  Dr. Beale manipulated her leg and she cried in pain.  Poor little sweetie - we must repair this for her.  He thinks because of her very young age, even though this is a complicated surgery, she should recover completely and have very little residual pain and/or limp.  He estimates a "repair" bill of at approximately $3,000 and we've already had x-rays done so thats another $300.  Under the current economic conditions, we just have to have the funds on hand before we do any medical procedures.

Please help us help little Carme Burke.  To donate via paypal, PLEASE CLICK HERE.   We can take credit cards USING THIS AUTHORIZATION FORM.  And, of course, if you want to send little Carme a check, GO HERE TO LET US KNOW and these pledges count immediately because we know you'll come through for this baby.
